Loved

I loved that I was able to see a robin’s nest with eggs at eye level. Her nest was tucked away in the grape vines on the fence. Mama Robin was sitting on the fence several feet from me, tweeting her disapproval that I was taking a picture.

Read

Sisterchicks Do The Hula By Robin Gunn Jones, via Joanne Viola. This was such a tenderhearted humorous book. That touched me so and brought me much laughter. (Ps: I ordered the rest of the series through Thrift Books)

Here is the Amazon summary:

Some dreams take a while before they come true. Best friends Hope and Laurie never made it to Hawaii during their college years. But when they’re about to turn forty, the islands still beckon, and off they go – with an unexpected stowaway on board (Hope happens to be seven months pregnant). A little pineapple, a little sunshine, and a surprising little surfing lesson give these two sisterchicks all their crazy hearts could hope for – and more – as they enter the next season of their lives with a splash and with a beautiful vision of what God has dreamed up for them.

Wherever there’s chocolate, there’s sure to be a sisterchick celebrating, and this trip to Hawaii is no exception. Best friends Hope and Laurie are on an audacious mission to commemorate their fortieth birthdays in style. Surfing and sailing, sushi and snorkeling—these two macadamia nuts from the mainland sample it all, unhindered by a surprise little stowaway.

Do you have a Sisterchick? Are you a Sicterchick? Here’s the definition.

Learned

Okay, so this week, I was “Today Year’s Old (51)” when I learned.

So I’m from Pennsylvania, and I’ve never been to the Poconos. But I thought I “knew” about it. I know about the Pocono Mountains. But I thought the Pocono’s was ONE resort in North Eastern PA. But it’s not. Had I not looked it up, I would not have realized the Poconos have Several resorts, Bed & breakfasts, Inn’s, RV parks, and All kinds of Amusements. Get this— Spread out throughout Several counties. Oh, I laughed at myself.

Ate

Good old-fashioned meatloaf. Betty Crocker recipe style. You know, the one— from the cookbook that was often given as a gift to newlyweds back in the day. Along with mashed potatoes and gravy and candied butternut squash. Okay, here’s a not-so-secret secret about me. I have to confess my love of anything potatoes. I can survive on potato dishes alone. LOL!

  1. What a great capture of the robin’s eggs in the nest, Paula! I came face-to-face with a baby robin last week and it was quite the encounter! I’m glad to hear you are reading again. 🙂 Happy Birthday! And mashed potatoes are such a treat! Have an awesome rest of the month!

    1. Thank you Lisa. Oh I bet seeing the baby Robin was awesome .

  2. What a beautiful robin’s nest! I too often take robins for granted; such beautiful eggs. And potatoes–yes, same here. I love anything and all things potatoes. 🙂

    1. That was the first time I saw Robin eggs fully intact with life in them. Usually I’ve seen them empty and on the ground. Go potato’s! Lol.

  3. Thanks for linking up today, Paula! You are about to read my favorite series of books of all time! I am a sisterchick and I have several sisterchicks. I’m so grateful to be able to say that! I love Robin Jones Gunn and have been reading her books since I was a young teenager. (I’m 46, so for almost 30 years!) She is such a wonderful writer, and has such a way with words. Have you read her other books? I’ve read every book she has ever written, and they just get better and better. Thrift Books is a great resource to buy books! I used them for years until my husband bought me a Kindle. I hope you enjoy all the books, and your weekend!

    1. Yes, she sure does have a way with words. Joanne V. Turned me on to this series, that I just had to order the rest of the series. No, I have not read any of her other books I’ve looked them up though.

  4. Paula, loved your post! I laughed so hard about the Poconos, I’m from New Jersey, but since marriage have lived in Pennsylvania except for the 8+ years I lived overseas on the mission field. Anyway even as a child living in Jersey we vacationed in the Poconos, I thought everyone knew about the Poconos!!

    1. I’m happy you got a kick out of it as I did. Lol.

  5. Paula, I’m technically from Pennsylvania too … I was born there and lived there for 2.5 years before my family moved to Kansas. I also have that same Betty Crocker cookbook, though I can’t remember the last time I used it. Hope your summer is going well, friend!

  6. Despite having lived within a couple hours of the Poconos for over twenty years, I have never yet visited. Wonder if I’ll ever remedy that? How fortunate you were to be able to watch the robin’s nest. Quite a treat. Hope the rest of your summer is fabulous!

  7. What a beautiful photo of the robin’s nest. I love, love, love the Sister Chicks books. I think It’s time for me to re-read them again. Hope you’re having a good day.

  8. I’m blessed to have a sister from another mother! LOL I love your robin’s eggs! So pretty and blue – I saw a turkey and her chicky poult this morning. She was not happy I was following her with my camera. I was never a meatloaf fan until I found my great grandmother’s recipe for her chili sauce – and, oh my – it made a believer out of me! What a sweet month you’ve had!

    1. Hey Maryleigh, I’m blessed to have you as my sister from another mother too! Lol.

  9. Paula,
I did get a chuckle out of your comment about the Pocono’s….I live on the edge of the Pocono Mountains…Yes, mountains that emcopress several counties…There are many hotels, resorts like the largest indoor water park on the east coas, Kalahari. And there is Great Wolf lodge….There are many outdoor water parks too at different ski resorts, plus quaint little towns like Jim Thorpe, Honesdale, Stroudsburg, etc…Shopping outlets, state parks, Bushkill Falls…so many things to see and places to go…You should come to visit the Pocono’s sometime….THanks so much for taking the time to stop by!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

  10. How cool that you were able to see the nest at eye level and view the eggs, very neat picture! Not a huge meatloaf fan (of the dish, the music of the musician I actually like, LOL) but I’m with you on most potato dishes. Hope you have a wonderful July!

  11. Oh we’ve been to the pocono mountains several times– we love hiking through Bushkill Falls!

  12. I have several of the Sisterchick books on my shelves…but have not read them yet. I know I need to. It sounds like June was a great month, I love the picture of the bird’s nest, thanks for sharing.-Cindy
