He takes you through the five ways of engaging with scripture in each chapter of John.  He uses a step-by-step approach. The way he taught and explained things had Oh and Aha! going in my head. I gleaned something new after each day’s devotional. This is a devotional that I would do again as it adds new insights and is great for a refresher of the book of John.

My Review

This was my first time reading the NET (New English Translation). And I found it both easy to read and understand. This unique Bible was created in partnership with Bible Gateway and the Taylor University Center for Scripture Engagement. Inside, you will find articles, book introductions, and user-friendly Scripture prompts based on five ways of engaging deeply with the Bible. These have helped me further a deeper understanding and facilitate my daily Bible study time.

Five Ways Of Engaging With Scripture

Praying Scripture: This has been a difficult one for me in the past. But I learned how to pray Scripture by following along, personalizing the prayer, and gaining language for the thoughts and emotions I want to express.

Picture It: This is neat because it allows you to place yourself in a biblical narrative as a bystander or participant in important events. Also, offering thinking prompts too.

Journaling: I love to journal. And in this section, you are provided with prompts to focus and reflect on Scripture and its meaning for your life, opening yourself to God’s voice as you think about what you read.

Engage Through Art: In this interesting section, you will find artwork to ponder, such as classics, photographs, sculptures, and paintings. These can help you deepen your meditations on scriptural truths. It sure did for me.

Contemplate: Here, you will be able to follow the church’s ongoing practice of reading, meditating on, praying, and contemplating a passage of Scripture to experience God’s presence through the words of the Bible.

Features

—Bible book introductions that provide an easy-to-understand overview of the background and historical context of the book you’re about to read.

—365-Day Bible Reading Plan to guide you through the entire Bible in a year. This is really going to come in helpful.

—Line-matched, single-column Scripture text for improved readability.

—Smyth-sewn binding lays flat in your hand or on your desk. And the cover is so soft, and it is just the right size to take with you in a backpack or carry bag.

—Two satin ribbon markers to help you keep track of where you are reading.

—Easy-to-read 9-point NET Comfort Print. I usually prefer large print, but I have to say this size was really easy to read.

I recommend this Bible as it will surely be an asset to your daily study time, as it was for me.

  2. I wasn't familiar with it either. I cross referenced it with different translations and found it to be comparable. I didn't come across anything that caused me to question it's accuracy.

  6. John is one of my favorite books too. I hadn't heard of the NET either. So when the opportunity to review it came up I was curious. I cross-referenced it with different translations and found it to be comparable. I didn't come across anything that caused me to question its accuracy.
