“ Then he said to his disciples, “ The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Matthew 9:37-38 NIV

For the past several weeks, I had been stunned over my dear friend and her husband’s bountiful garden crop this year. It seems as though the vegetables just kept coming. They canned the vegetables that could be canned. They chopped and froze the vegetables that could be frozen. And, they gave to family and friends.

God’s Harvest

What about God’s harvest? Us, we are in the field ready to be harvested or have already been picked. But, there are many others in the field ready to be harvested. However, they may not know how to receive Jesus and be harvested. Some may not know him and may wither and die, and some may not know how to grow into maturity.

Workers Needed

There is a way to grow God’s harvest. Some people are ready and want to give their lives to Christ and may need someone to show them how. Christ-followers can help those who want to follow Jesus. As Christ-followers, we can help others grow into maturity and feed them through God’s word.

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. In the above verse, Jesus is telling us to pray that people will respond to his need for workers. Sometimes God answers prayers through us. It may be us; he uses to show another person the way to him.

Take Away: What can you do to show another person the way to Jesus? If someone came to mind, pray about them and for them. What can you learn about loving others?
